This is too cool. It’s 3 PM Eastern on the official release day. Right now The Corporate Blogging Book is at #6 on Amazon’s Business / Marketing & Sales list, right above Jeffrey Gitomer’s Little Red Book of Sales Answers and Michael Port’s Book Yourself Solid.
To continue the game (the rankings fluctuate hour by hour; there’s an algorithm behind them), TCBB is #59 in Amazon top Business books, right behind Tom Friedman’s The World Is Flat and Jack & Susie Welch’s Winning.
Will my book stay in such august company? Unlikely. But what the heck.
P.S. Yes this is fun
In case you wandered into the party a little late, today is publicaton day. Yes, my book is shipping now from Amazon. Got my notification that the copy I ordered for overnight delivery will be here tomorrow. (Just testing.) Now about that glass of wine… it sounds better than Diet Coke.
Friend and colleague Jim Kinlan of TemplateZone just emailed to tell me that the copy of The Corporate Blogging Book he ordered from Amazon has shipped! That’s his confirmation email at left, on his snazzy HTML stationery. One day early, it appears, as the official release date is tomorrow, August 3rd, 2006.
More pics of Washington’s blogging cognoscenti, as well as corporate blogger wannabes, who came to the pre-release party in downtown Washington DC - yes, one week before the official pub date of August 3rd!
John Aravosis of Americablog fame (at right) was there. A bunch of my friends from Fleishman-Hillard (co-hosts of the event) came, including Peter Klaus (at left).
And of course local celebrity corporate bloggers from the book, including Pat Cleary of NAM (at left), Kevin Holland of ACCABuzz and Cheryl Contee of BloggerRelations. Ken Yarmosh live blogged the event with this spot-on comment:
“There is an interesting crowd here but for the most part they do seem very non-bloggy. Despite the echoes we often hear in the halls of geek-dom, the blogosphere is not saturated yet. There are many, many more voices to come, blogging on everything from finance to real estate, to yes, even air conditioners. And I know, because I’ve met them this afternoon.” - Ken Yarmosh
Mitch Derman, a senior communications manager for AOL (at right), won the signed copy of my new book. And Olsson’s was on hand to sell books to the other attendees.
See more photos on Flickr. Oh and my inspired words to mark the pre-release launch of The Corporate Blogging Book in Washington DC?
“The city of spin meets the new age of corporate transparency: that’s what effective corporate blogging is all about!”
(I thought that was kinda clever.)

I just updated the About the book page with a little Q & A that explains it. I’ve written a book for the non-cool, the non plugged-in, the possibly skeptical and perhaps even fearful executive. In addition, I’ve written it in a slightly bloggy style. I’m hoping it’s an engaging, fun read. And not a dry business book.
It’s the softcover pre-publication version of my book - a collector’s item! Keep it on your shelf or sell it on eBay (kidding… well, who knows?).
I’ve got two copies left that I will sign and send to two lucky winners.

Cool. Take me to the One-Minute Blogging Survey.
Way to go, Brian! It’s exciting when a fellow author hits publication day and can announce the official release of his book: Lead Generation for the Complex Sale (McGraw-Hill, ISBN 0071458972, $24.95).
2.0: the new way to publicize your book release
Just got an email from Brian with a link to today’s press release about the launch. (He uses PRWeb which I’ve also used and recommend highly. Inexpensive and reliable; your release gets picked up by Google and other news sources.)
Companion podcast
Cleverly, he’s also released a podcast [direct link to MP3 file, 7:41 mins, 7.1 MB] through PRWeb Podcast. (Wish there were an interim download page for the podcast.)
Note that Brian has a big-name publisher, McGraw-Hill. These days, that isn’t enough. You’ve got to market your book as imaginatively and aggressively as if you were self-published. In fact, proving that you can do that is one key piece in getting a book deal.
About the book
Brian sent me a preview copy. It’s a handsome hardcover that packs in everything you could possibly want to know about creating and sustaining a lead generation program. If you’re in big-time sales with long lead times — or managing anyone who is — you gotta have Brian’s book on your desk. Order on Amazon.
More about the book and other ways to order.
